BABYLON, NY – Suffolk County police found two arms and a leg, and now additional human remains have been uncovered. Authorities announced on Thursday and then Friday that they found the head and arm of an unidentified woman on the west side of Southards Pond Park, which is located just south of Sunrise Highway on the border of North and West Babylon. A leg had been found earlier, protruding from a pile of leaves in the same area.
Additionally, a man’s arm was discovered on the east side of the park. Later the same day, a canine found a second arm, which was reported as the left arm. According to detectives, the incident began when a young girl on her way to school noticed a tattooed left arm with missing fingertips and immediately informed her father, who called 911. It’s worth noting that the female remains where not said to have any tattoos. Neither of the victims were identified by police.
This unsettling situation is being treated as a homicide, and the investigation is well underway. Cadaver dogs played a crucial role in locating the severed body parts scattered throughout the park, according to police. Suffolk County homicide detective Kevin Beyrer, who was also involved in the Gilgo Beach serial killer case, stated that the limbs seemed to have been placed in the park recently, as students frequently pass through the area. According to GreaterLongIsland.com, who spoke to Beyrer, it’s possible the body parts were there just hours before they were found.
As authorities continue their search in the 19-acre Southards Pond Park, they remain hopeful they will discover the rest of the victim’s body. The residents of the area are understandably disturbed by this gruesome development, particularly those living in Long Island’s South Bay. Yet, one local resident expressed their belief that this incident does not reflect the overall safety and character of the community.
All investigators have released so far is that they believe whoever dumped the bodies used a vehicle.
The Town of Babylon, which is home to nearly 220,000 residents, prides itself on being one of the more culturally diverse municipalities on Long Island.
