WESTBURY, NY – A 27-year-old Honduran national, Wilson Castillo Diaz, has been arrested in Long Island, accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in Westbury last month. Nassau County police disclosed that they are investigating whether Diaz has additional victims, based on the details of the case.

According to a criminal complaint, Diaz allegedly committed the assault in his bedroom on October 16, where he also showed the child explicit images on his television. Following the incident, the child was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation. Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder stated that the case is still under investigation, with authorities working to determine if other victims might be involved.

Diaz reportedly entered the U.S. illegally as an unaccompanied 16-year-old in 2014, crossing the border near Rio Grande, Texas. After being detained by U.S. border agents, he was released with a notice to appear before an immigration judge—a hearing he ultimately missed. In 2016, Diaz was ordered deported in absentia for failing to attend the hearing. Authorities are uncertain about when Diaz moved to New York or how long he had been in the area prior to the alleged assault.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman expressed deep concern about the incident, highlighting the county’s stance against sanctuary policies that prevent the vetting of undocumented migrants. Blakeman criticized state and federal policies that he believes have made it harder for local authorities to screen for potential threats.

“Nassau County is not a sanctuary county, and for good reason, because we try to keep out illegal migrants who haven’t been vetted,” Blakeman added. “We don’t know who they are. We don’t know where they came from. We don’t know if they have a criminal record. But unfortunately, our state is a sanctuary state and the policies in Washington have made us a sanctuary country”

Diaz was arraigned on multiple charges, including rape, attempted rape, and child endangerment. Police reported that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been informed of his arrest and has placed a detainer on him, which indicates he will be deported once his criminal trial is concluded.
