NEW YORK, NY – A 67-year-old man is in critical condition after being found on fire at New York Penn Station on Friday evening. Authorities responded to the incident shortly after 8 p.m. when a bystander alerted police to the situation. The victim, who is believed to be homeless, sustained severe burns to his legs and upper body and was transported to New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The area around tracks 11 and 12 was cordoned off as NYPD, FDNY, and Transit Police investigated the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with police working to determine whether the fire was accidental or caused by another party. Early findings suggest the victim did not set himself on fire.
No arrests have been made, and police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances leading to the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
Last week, a woman was killed on a New York subway train after a migrant from guatemala set her clothes on fire in what authorities have described as a brutal and depraved attack.
New York’s Penn Station is the busiest transportation station in the United States and North America.
