MASTIC, NY – Philip Walker, a 58-year-old resident of Mastic, has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for the fatal stabbing of his housemate, 63-year-old Jimmy Vaughn. The incident occurred on June 30, 2023, at the Shirley Motel on Montauk Highway, where both men resided.

Walker attacked Vaughn, inflicting three stab wounds, one of which pierced his heart. Vaughn was found outside his room by paramedics and was transported to Long Island Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead approximately 90 minutes later.

Walker fled the scene but was apprehended two days later at a relative’s home in North Amityville.

Surveillance footage showed him entering and exiting Vaughn’s room around the time of the attack.

Initially charged with second-degree murder, Walker accepted a plea deal for first-degree manslaughter and is expected to be sentenced to 20 years in prison on March 25, 2025.

This conviction ensures accountability for a senseless act of violence that claimed a life,” said District Attorney Tierney. “While no sentence can bring the victim back to his friends and family, I hope that they can find some solace knowing that his killer was held criminally responsible for his actions.”
