VALLEY STREAM, NY – A Brooklyn woman was arrested in Valley Stream on Monday, February 12, 2024, after allegedly committing assault and theft at a Walmart store. The incident occurred at around 8:30 a.m., prompting a response from Nassau County’s Fifth Squad.

The arrest came after officers received a 911 call reporting a larceny in progress at the Walmart on Green Acres Road. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Destiny Swaby of Sterling Place, was observed taking merchandise from the store and leaving without paying. When officers arrived at the scene, they attempted to apprehend Swaby, but she put up a violent and combative resistance.

During the arrest, one officer sustained an injury due to what was reported as the defendant’s resistance. She was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the First District Court in Hempstead, located at 99 Main Street.
