HEWLETT, NY – A hit-and-run incident in Hewlett, Long Island, claimed the life of 74-year-old Jeffrey Frank on Wednesday night. The tragedy occurred as Frank was crossing Broadway near the Everit Avenue intersection around 10 p.m. when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV, according to Nassau County Police. Witnesses reported that the driver exited the vehicle, dragged Frank to the side of the road, and then fled the scene.
Frank, a longtime Hewlett resident, was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver responsible for the incident had not been apprehended as of Thursday evening.
Frank was a well-known figure in the community. He was a dedicated member of the Hewlett Fire Department for over 35 years, serving with Engine Company 2. He was also a veteran music DJ at Backstage in Woodmere, known for his encyclopedic knowledge of music.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and no arrests have been made. The loss of Jeffrey Frank leaves a deep void in the Five Towns community, where he was admired for his dedication and contributions.
