Far Rockaway Man Sentenced to 60 Days In Jail, Three Years Probation For Antisemitic Hate Crimes

CEDARHURST, NY – In October 2024, Alvin Tirado, 38, of Far Rockaway, was arrested for making antisemitic threats and assaulting individuals in Cedarhurst and Lawrence, Long Island. On January 22, 2025, he was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years of probation for these hate crimes.

The incidents occurred on October 4, 2024, during Rosh Hashanah. Tirado first confronted a group near Lincoln Street and Oakland Avenue in Cedarhurst, making antisemitic remarks and threats. He then approached another group near Barrett Road and Washington Avenue in Lawrence, where he continued his verbal assaults and physically attacked a victim. Upon arrest, Tirado resisted and injured a police officer.

Tirado was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree aggravated harassment, and third-degree menacing as hate crimes. He pleaded guilty to aggravated harassment under a subsection addressing hate crimes.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly emphasized that hate-fueled behavior and violence are unacceptable in the county and affirmed the commitment to protecting the Jewish community from harm.
