WYANDANCH, NY – In a significant crackdown on property crime, two Long Island men have been sentenced for their involvement in a large-scale theft operation targeting vehicle tires and rims across Suffolk County. Dwayne Jones, 46, of Central Islip, received a sentence of four to eight years in prison, while his co-defendant, Randy Woods, 38, of Wyandanch, was sentenced to five to ten years. The duo admitted to stealing tires and rims from 114 vehicles over a span of more than a year.

The investigation revealed that between July 1, 2022, and October 20, 2023, Jones and Woods systematically targeted residents, car dealerships, and rental car companies throughout Suffolk County. They showed a particular preference for vehicles manufactured by Honda, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW, as well as SUVs equipped with black rims. The total property damage resulting from their thefts is estimated at approximately $500,000.

The stolen tires and rims were often resold on digital platforms such as Facebook Marketplace and Instagram. Investigators uncovered text messages between the two men discussing specific orders from customers, indicating a coordinated effort to fulfill requests for particular types of tires and rims. Their nocturnal operations spanned various locations, including private driveways, apartment complexes, car dealerships, and hotel parking lots.

The successful prosecution of Jones and Woods underscores the collaborative efforts of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the Suffolk County Police Department, and the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB). Assistant District Attorneys James Bartens and Blythe Miller of the Financial Crimes Bureau led the prosecution, with significant investigative support from Detectives Michael Lavella and Michael Filippazzo, as well as Research Technician Emily Kiersnowski. The NICB provided specialized assistance throughout the investigation.

The successful arrest, conviction and sentencing of these two defendants underscores our commitment to combating theft and property crimes in Suffolk County,” said District Attorney Tierney. “This case also showcases the extensive collaboration and significant resources that are brought to bear on pattern crimes. We are grateful for the specialized investigative support from the Suffolk County Police Department and National Insurance Crime Bureau.”
