NEW YORK, NY – MSNBC has announced the cancellation of Joy Reid’s 7 p.m. program, “The ReidOut,” as part of a significant programming overhaul under the direction of the network’s new president, Rebecca Kutler. The final episode is scheduled to air this week. In its place, MSNBC will introduce a panel show co-hosted by Symone Sanders Townsend, Alicia Menendez, and Michael Steele.

This decision is part of a broader strategy by Kutler to revamp MSNBC’s lineup, aiming to elevate some of its most progressive voices in response to the current political climate. The network has faced declining ratings and internal challenges, including the recent resignation of former president Rashida Jones and controversies surrounding anchor meetings with political figures.

In addition to Reid’s departure, other notable changes include Alex Wagner losing her 9 p.m. slot to Rachel Maddow, who will return to hosting five nights a week. Jen Psaki is also expected to receive increased airtime as part of the network’s efforts to bolster its lineup.

These programming shifts reflect MSNBC’s attempt to adapt to the evolving media landscape and political environment, particularly with the onset of President Donald Trump’s second term.

In the immediate aftermath of the election, the network’s primetime ratings dropped by more than half, averaging about 600,000 viewers. This decline continued, with reports indicating that MSNBC’s ratings, along with those of CNN, were cut in half, reaching their lowest levels in nearly 30 years.
